Hiring a Student Worker
In order to hire a student worker, managers should login to the Handshake portal using their KSU NetID single-sign on credentials. Prior to hire, managers should reference the requirements and restrictions for student workers to determine a student's eligibility to work as a student assistant or graduate student assistant.
Once a hiring proposal is submitted, the student should then make an appointment to complete their New Hire Paperwork and subsequently meet all the appropriate requirements of employment. Any student being re-hired within one year of previous employment at KSU may be exempt from this appointment if their employment paperwork is still current. Student workers may work in multiple departments on campus but must adhere to work hour’s restrictions. Upon separation of employment, the hiring manager should promptly submit a termination request in OneUSG Manager Self-Service (MSS). Student workers functioning in a position of trust as defined by Board of Regents Policy must be designated as such by the hiring manager to Human Resources during the hiring process so that the appropriate background check process is followed. If the student worker requires after-hours access to campus buildings, they will be required to complete this process as well.
