Hiring a Student Worker
In order to hire a student worker, managers should contact Human Resources for recruitment and hiring processes. Prior to hire, managers should reference the requirements and restrictions for student workers to determine a student's eligibility to work as a student assistant or graduate student assistant. Once a hiring proposal has been submitted, the student should then register for and attend a new hire orientation session (call 470.578.6030 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org) and subsequently meet all the appropriate requirements of employment. Any student being re-hired within one year of previous employment at KSU may be exempt from attending orientation provided that their employment paperwork is still current. Student workers may work in multiple departments on campus but must adhere to work hours restrictions. Upon separation of employment, the hiring manager should promptly submit a SEPAF alerting HR to the change of status. For more information regarding student employment, contact your HR Specialist.
Student workers functioning in a position of trust as defined by Board of Regents Policy must be designated as such by the hiring manager to Human Resources during the hiring process so that the appropriate background check process is followed. If the student worker will have after hours access to campus buildings they will be required to complete this process as well.
