USG is committed to offering quality benefits, as well as making it easy for you to use them. As a result, USG will soon introduce a new benefits administration system for employees, retirees, spouses and their survivors.
Please be assured your benefits and premiums are not changing. Even though a new benefits administration system is coming, your 2017 benefits and premiums are not changing. As always, you can change your benefits whenever you experience a life event, as well as during the next annual Open Enrollment period this fall.

Q. What is changing?
A. On June 26, 2017, the University System of Georgia (USG) will introduce a single, system-wide benefits administration system.
Q. Why is USG making this change?
A. The transition will allow USG to offer a quality, consistent approach to benefits administration to all of its institutions across the state. This work is part of the broader OneUSG initiative, which will pave the way for a new Human Resources information system (HRIS) and payroll system, supported by PeopleSoft functionality.
Q. What is NOT changing as a result of this transition?
A. Retirees will continue to have the same array of quality benefits that they do today.Benefits are not changing as a result of the transition.
Q. What does the change mean for me as a retiree?
A. As a USG retiree, I will be able to better manage, choose and use my health and group benefits thanks to the new OneUSG Connect - Benefits website, as well as the OneUSG Connect - Benefits Call Center, which will be staffed with professional, well-trained representatives.
Q. How should I as a retiree prepare for the change?
A. There is very little that retirees need to do. However, because of the transition to the new benefits administration system, the way you pay for your USG coverage will change.
- If you are a retiree who is now enrolled in USG retiree dental, vision, life insurance or pre-65 healthcare coverage (not coverage through the Aon Retiree Health Exchange),you should not pre-pay premiums for coverage beyond June 30, 2017.
- If you have already pre-paid premiums for coverage beyond June 30, you will receive your refund in the mail.
- The only change is the way you pay for your USG coverage in which you will pay USG for any coverage after June 2017.
- Again, your benefits are not changing, nor are the premiums.
- If there is a balance owed with ADP COBRA prior to July, that balance will not transfer to USG and will need to be satisfied. If not satisfied, collection efforts will be initiated as well as USG will be notified. An unpaid balance will be reported to USG and will possibly result in losing retiree USG benefits in which you will not be able to re-enroll.
Retirees will continue to have the benefits in which they are now enrolled. Before the transition to the new benefits administration system, we will inform you of how to reach the new website and call center, how to pay your premiums, and how you can explore the new resources we will offer to help you manage your benefits.
Q. How will retirees be informed about the transition?
A. Before the transition to the new benefits administration system, the OneUSG team will provide communication materials to institutions, which they can use to inform their retirees about the upcoming transition. Transition communications will explain to retirees how they can reach the new OneUSG Connect - Benefits website and the OneUSG Connect - Benefits Call Center, plus how they can make the most of the new resources we will offer to help them manage their benefits.
Q. What should I do, as a retiree, the first time I visit the new OneUSG Connect -
A. We recommend that you review and confirm your contact information, dependents and beneficiaries. We also encourage you to explore the resources and features available on the website, since they will help you understand and make the most of your USG benefits.
Q. What tools and resources will be available on the new OneUSG Connect - Benefits
A. The OneUSG Connect - Benefits website will make it easy to get information throughout the year. Retirees will be able to:
- Review current benefits coverage.
- Make benefits changes due to a life status change (e.g., birth of a child, marriage).
- Find doctors, hospitals or other healthcare providers in the plan’s network.
- Keep track of healthcare expenses (including deductibles, coinsurance and copayments).
- Contact insurance carriers and other benefit resources.
Q. Will the new OneUSG Connect - Benefits website be secure?
A. Yes. Maintaining the privacy and security of our retirees’ information is very important. The website uses the strongest available internet encryption methods — making it virtually impossible to be read by anyone on another system. All information is stored in a secure internet location. And, if there’s no activity on a webpage for an extended period of time, the website automatically logs off the user to ensure the safety of his or her personal information.
Q. Will the way we enroll for benefits be different during the upcoming Open Enrollment
A. Yes. During the annual Open Enrollment period in Fall 2017, you will enroll for your 2018 benefits through the OneUSG Connect - Benefits website. USG will provide detailed information on how to enroll in 2018 benefits in advance of the Open Enrollment period.

A. When it’s time to enroll in benefits, retirees will find easy-to-use tools to help them compare healthcare options and estimate costs.

Beginning June 26, 2017, retirees can contact the new OneUSG Connect - Benefits Call Center toll-free at 1-844-5-USGBEN (1-844-587-4236). Representatives will be available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday. The OneUSG Connect - Benefits Call Center can be reached from anywhere in the world, and translators will be available.
Q. How will the new OneUSG Connect - Benefits Call Center help retirees?
A. When retirees contact the OneUSG Connect - Benefits Call Center beginning on June 26, 2017, professional representatives will be able to:
- Help them enroll in benefits and report qualified status changes.
- Answer questions about eligibility.
- Help resolve technical issues.
- Explain benefit plans and define key terms.
- Answer questions about filing healthcare claims.
- Assist with coverage confirmation calls with benefits providers.
Q. I received a letter with the wrong name on it. Does this mean that my personal information has been compromised?
A. An error occurred with a recent mailing to some retirees. The letter was printed with the wrong name on the letter (i.e., the name and address on the letter do not match to the retiree name and address). We apologize for this error and the confusion it has caused. Please be aware that this error was not caused by the new OneUSG Connect - Benefits system and does not reflect your personal information in the new benefits system. In addition, there is no personal information contained in the letter other than the incorrect name.
